Urban Planning

Introduction of Urban Planning:

Urban planning is a highly technical and political process concerned with the use of land and design of the urban environment, including air, water and infrastructure passing into and out of urban areas such as transportation and distribution networks. It guides and ensures the orderly development of settlements and satellite communities which commute into and out of urban areas or share resources with it. A consistent planning is concerned with thorough research and analysis, strategic thinking, architecture, urban design, effective public consultation, policy reforms, implementation process and efficient management.

Cities are places which act as a medium of human interaction; places where people can interact, share ideas and, by doing so, unlock their economic potential to transform the cities as an engines of economic growth & stability. The importance of urban planning can no longer be ignored to have sustainable cities economic growth in Pakistan and most particularly in the urban centers of war affected province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A brief view of KPK:

The urban sectors in the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been neglected in the recent past due to several ups & downs. The result has been an unregulated urban growth, with less than optimal infrastructure, inefficient institutions and poor services outreach and quality, which has led to low quality of life. Adopting an integrated approach, which capitalizes on the potentials of a city, can transform the problem into an opportunity, and make the cities as engines of economic growth.
